Anthony J. Adams, Jr.
Anthony J. Adams, Jr., a principal of the firm, holds a B.A. degree from Indiana University and is a 1980 graduate of Albany Law School. He has been in private practice since completing a clerkship for New York State Supreme Court Justice David O. Boehm in 1983. Much of his practice is dedicated to representing contractors and other construction industry participants in contract negotiation, claims, labor relations, risk management and other general business matters. He has been recognized by "Superlawyers" and "Best Lawyers" in construction law and litigation since 2008. In 2013 and 2015 "Best Lawyers" named him a "Lawyer of the Year" in construction law, and in 2014 he received that same recognition for construction litigation.
However, Mr. Adams also has significant litigation experience in other commercial matters including partnership and corporate disputes, real property taxation and zoning disputes. In recent years he has litigated several cases for and against fiduciaries, including banks charged with failing to adequately diversify trust assets in their care. Mr. Adams practices in state and federal courts (both trial and appellate) in New York and elsewhere. He has successfully argued three times before the New York State Court of Appeals, where his cases have limited the reach of the State prevailing wage law, established limits on the public use of project labor agreements, and confirmed the application of common law trust principles in cases of statutory trust fund diversion. He also practices before various arbitral forums and before government agencies, including the New York State Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board.
Mr. Adams is a member of the American Bar Association (including its Forum on the Construction Industry), the New York State Bar Association and the Monroe County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Associated General Contractors and the Rochester Builders Exchange. He has lectured on construction law, real property taxation and fiduciary litigation. Mr. Adams currently chairs the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rochester, the Board of Trustees of the Rochester Museum and Science Center and the Judiciary Committee of the Monroe County Bar Association.
